Workshop
Secondary curves of the spine with Hugo Abecassis
3-5th of April 2026 in Kranj, Slovenia
Location: Prana joga center, Slovenski trg 5, 4000 Kranj
After a fully booked first workshop, we are excited to welcome Hugo Abecassis back to Slovenia for a second weekend workshop. This workshop provides a practical, anatomy-based framework for working with the lower back and neck through asana, alignment principles and intelligent use of props.
You will gain a practical understanding of:
- Physiology of the vertebral spine – how the lumbar and cervical regions function and why they are prone to overload
- Alignment in asana – positioning the body to reduce strain and support optimal mechanics
- Anatomy-based cues – simple, accurate instructions that improve students’ awareness and practice
- Postural guidance – understanding individual postural tendencies and guiding students toward more supportive and balanced alignment
- Biomechanics – understanding load, force distribution and joint behaviour in yoga postures
- Use of props – adapting asanas to create space, reduce compression and enhance stability when needed
You will walk away with:
– a deeper understanding of how the lumbar and cervical spine function in yoga practice
– the ability to identify and correct common misalignments
– tools to adapt and refine your own practice
– a more integrated, safe and effective approach to working with students who experience discomfort or limited mobility in these areas
The lumbar and cervical spine are the two regions most affected by modern lifestyle patterns and poor movement habits. Without proper education, these areas are easily overloaded or compressed in asana practice.
This workshop will help you build sustainable movement patterns, reduce injury risk and understand how to support spinal health, for yourself and for your students.

HUGO ABECASSIS
Hugo is a yoga teacher, certified osteopath and movement researcher based in Portugal.
Introduced to yoga in 2000, Hugo's path led him from Ashtanga Vinyasa to the Iyengar method, which he found deeply aligned with his therapeutic and medical background. In 2017 he became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, and has since continued his research into anatomy, biomechanics and biotensegrity.
His teaching is rooted in the belief that the body holds the story of our lives — past, present and future imprinted in our tissues through posture, trauma, injury and genetics. Hugo teaches you to read and understand your own body as a first step toward deeper transformation.
Drawing on his training in osteopathy, Ayurveda, fascial anatomy and somatic movement, Hugo brings a rare combination of scientific rigour and philosophical depth to his classes. He presently teaches across Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Thailand.
